Oversee grounds keeping staff for the daily operation of assigned contract work in order to ensure that their work is of high quality and consistent with the customer’s needs.  Supervise the instructional programs for the training of Clients to improve their self-management habits, appropriate behavior, and skills in communication, job readiness, and basic vocational habits.  Individuals are responsible for the care of the surrounding landscape and grounds of a building, business, park, and/or cemetery.  Individual will support fellow co-workers and clients while performing landscaping duties: mowing, weeding, trimming, raking, etc. using hand and power tools.  Individual will transport clients and co-workers from jobsite to jobsite.  Individual must possess the skills and ability to pull and reverse a large pick-up with attached equipment trailer.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  1. Supervise and perform landscaping/yard services including but not limited to:

a.       Mowing lawn either by hand or using a riding lawnmower.

b.      Trimming shrubs and pulling weeds.

c.       Raking, mulching, and pruning the grounds

d.      Sweeping walkway of debris.

e.       Removing dead, damaged or unwanted plants/trees

f.       Planting flowers, trees, shrubs

g.       Applying fertilizer or pesticides as directed

  1. Operate various yard/landscaping tools such as: mowers, blowers, chain saws, weed eaters, rakes, shovels, pruning shears, etc.
  2. Ensure the accurate and timely completion of records and reports which include but are not limited to: daily participant time sheets, evaluation, training and work related performance reports, accurate customer charge information to Accounting for billing, other reports on participant activities as required by regulatory and funding sources and the Company’s policies and procedures.
  3. Provide training to all Clients to meet the needs identified in each Client’s individual plan and restructures training and tasks through assessment, evaluation, modification and adaptation to meet the Client’s functional levels.
  4. Assist Supervisor and/or Manager in evaluation of Client’s job readiness and with recommendations for competitive employment.
  5. Ensure the overall safety, health and well-being of Clients; enforces rules and regulations, good housekeeping habits and safety, and proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  6. Maintain inventory of supplies, tools and equipment.
  7. Transport clients and co-workers from jobsite to jobsite and possess the ability to safely maneuver equipment trailer.
  8. Maintain compliance with The Arc of Hilo’s Employee Handbook and Safety Handbook.
  9. Answer all inquiries related to job; refer all other inquiries not related to the job to the appropriate department or personnel.
  10. Perform job responsibilities accurately, timely and in a professional manner.
  11. Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  12. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager or other designated person; performs other assignments for which employee is qualified within other areas of the Company as requested by a Manager, other designated person and/or President and CEO due to staff shortages or temporary emergencies.


Education : High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience : Two (2) years Grounds keeping experience

Other Requirements

Must be able to lift 50 pounds.  Must be able to maintain an acceptable criminal abstract from the State of Hawaii, as determined by the company. Must be able to maintain Protective Services Central Registry clearances from Adult Protective Services (APS) Central Registry and Welfare Services (CWS) Central Registry. Must maintain CPR and First Aid Certificates.  Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening and maintain annually a current TB clearance.
